We’ve been enjoying the seasonal drink of pumpkin spice lattes for over a decade. However, none of us have really stopped to think about where this drink came from. Now it’s time to hear the sweet tale of pumpkin spice lattes.
Pumpkin spice lattes first appeared in Starbuck in January 2003. However, it was influenced by another latte. In the previous year the coffee house introduced holiday themed winter lattes such as eggnog latte and peppermint mocha. The ingredients were perfected and the drink was ready for coffee customers in the fall.
Essentially the pumpkin spice lattes have a mix of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. Often they contain pumpkin spices or pumpkin puree. Most companies introduce this seasonal drink in the fall and have it available until the end of December.
In recent years a few companies have had the drink available as soon as August as a “preview” drink. These lattes have indeed become part of season and consumers look forward to tasting their favourite drink once more.
Since the success of pumpkin spice lattes many businesses have followed suit. A series of pumpkin spice products have come of the market because of it. This includes candles and lotions.
